Project 2025 would hurt South Carolina.
According to What Does Project 2025 Mean For SC? (alternate link):
What would the second pillar of Project 2025 do? In short:
- Eliminate Title 1 funding from public schools
- Get rid of Head Start and equivalent early intervention programs
- Remove SNAP benefits from hungry families
- Roll back Medicaid
- Restrict access to veterans’ benefits
…just to name a few more obvious and direct opportunities, although countless others exist.
What would this mean for South Carolinians? In a state where 90% of children attend public schools, removing Title 1 funding would cut nearly $266.5 million from our already underfunded school system. By eliminating Head Start and similar programs, almost 10,000 children in our state would lose access to crucial early intervention programs, which are proven to benefit students needing an educational boost. SNAP feeds about 600,000 South Carolinians across 280,000+ households, providing more than $1.3 billion annually. More than 1.3 million South Carolinians are on Medicaid, which would be stripped under Project 2025 policies. And, for a state that boasts about its proud connection to the veterans who live here, Project 2025 would directly impact the benefits of close to 350,000 former military members, not to mention the further impact on their families.
South Carolina would lose out: Loans to help rebuild
Small Business Administration’s (SBA) disaster loan program—the federal government’s largest source of disaster recovery funds for survivors, which provides low-interest direct loans to small-business owners and households who need to repair and rebuild their properties.
Project 2025 would eliminate disaster recovery loans:
Project 2025—a far-right road map that would gut the country’s nearly 250-year-old system of checks and balances—proposes, on page 750, an “end to SBA direct lending,” the only instance of which is the disaster loan program.
We can stop Project 2025.
Project 2025 would eliminate a public service that serves more than 800,000 children a year, plus their families. Head Start is an investment that makes hundreds of thousands of people more prosperous, healthier, and happier. Project 2025 would harm hundreds of thousands of Americans.
